Fishguard has an intersting local history as the site of the last invasion of Britain in 1797 and you can see the unique commerative tapestry in Fishguard library. Nearby St Davids is Britains smallest City where you can visit the Cathedral and Bishop’s palace and to the north you can find the Preseli Mountains famous as the source of the Blue Stones in Stonehenge. .

For walkers and ramblers there are many walks especially Britains only Coastal National Park which encompasses the entire coast of Pembrokeshire. .

Nowadays Fishguard is probably more famous for its music festivals:

In May there is the Fishguard Folk Festival ever whitsun bank holiday weekend since 1999

At the end of July there is the International Music Festival which has been running since 1969

The August Bank holiday weekend is carnival weekend, with the Aberjazz festival, an annual five day Jazz ‘n’ blues Festival which first started in 2004.

Finally you can see in the new year with the legendary New Year’s Eve Party on Fishguard Square

The rugged North Pembrokehsire coastline offers an abundance of sandy beaches nestling in the coves along Britain’s only coastal National Park. There is plenty to do whether you are a keen fisherman, golfer or bird watcher. For younger guests, apart from all the sandy beaches, there is a theme park at Oakwood, Folly Farm and Bluestone National Park Resort to name but a few local attractions easily accessable by car.

Fishguard Harbour itself was once a port of call for transatlantic liners such at the RMS Mauretania and is now a principle port for ferry passengers to Ireland.

Fishguard also has its very own independent theatre, Theatr Gwaun, which is a community run theatre that puts on plays and films, live music and lots of other entertainment. Check out their website for more information
